Aboard Logos Hope, Port Klang

Day Trip to a Cruise Liner

15 October 2011 (Sat)

We heard that a German cruise liner was docked at West Port, Port Klang and had 5,000 books for sale. So who wouldn't want to check out a bookshop cum library in a ship, right?

The excited bunch before going in-Simmha, N. Arvin, Nisha, Rishi and Harish

I am lucky as N is always game for new adventures and new things  to do so off we went. I thought including N's niece and nephews will be fun and so, we picked Nisha, Arvin and Simmha and headed to the port.

During the video presentation - Simmha and Arvin

True enough, there were plenty of books and stationeries as well. But 90% of the books were biblical in nature, meaning tailored towards Christianity. I actually bought 2 books and both had the main characters embracing Christianity.

I am not against missionary activities as such but I do think that this kind of information should be mentioned somewhere so that we know what to expect.

Interesting quote...wonder where I am heading?

Anyway, there weren't any open discourse about Christianity or anything but whatever that was displayed in that ship inclined towards it.

So what did we do, you ask? Well, we bought the admission tickets, went aboard the ship and explored. Visitors were first greeted with a video showing what's in store for them, then we walked through an exhibition displaying ship equipment, and finally the bookstore.

The place was very crowded, it being a Saturday and all. We browsed and Harish talked me into buying him a toy. Once done, we found ourselves at the last stop which was a cafe, things weren't really cheap so we just settled for some drinks. Some volunteers talked N into visiting an HIV audio visual room. After a small info session on what HIV is and how it spreads, we passed through several 'rooms' that told stories of a young couple meeting in a pub then engaging in unsafe sex . The kids listened intently through the ear phones that were plugged onto them by Korean volunteers.

Harish was more interested in the gadget than the story
And we thought the climax would be going up to the open deck, but alas we were not allowed access, so had to disembark. So disappointing.

Finally out of the ship and the crowd
Once done - do they look disappointed?

Port Klang faces the Straits Of Malacca. We watched the beautiful sunset awhile before leaving.
